Welcome to the best Extended Day program in St Johns County. The Palencia Elementary School Extended Day Program is designed around the children and working parents. For children, we provide an energetic environment that is safe and nurturing, and filled with a variety of structured activities that provide opportunities for learning, exercise, social development – and fun! It’s like a mini-summer camp everyday! Our parents can be assured that their children are properly supervised, provided with engaging and stimulating activities, and have an appropriate balance between homework, exercise, skill development, and social activities.

Morning extended day is a time for relaxing, playing quiet games, reading books and talking quietly to friends.  It will be a less structured time than the afternoon themed activity time.

Our extended day program is organized much like a camp program.  It will start each afternoon with a snack and then “Jamboree” where all the children get together for a short period of fun games, some songs and times when their counselors may put on a skit for them.  The children will come up with a name for their group and fun things that go along with their name like a flag or a spirit cheer.

Grades 1-5 will have a homework lab before starting their activities.

The children will then have daily activities, some of which are centered around the monthly theme.  These will include arts and crafts, outside play, inside games, cooking, go “green” projects, community service, and more.  There will be time to use the computer lab and the Lego room.  The end of the day will be an opportunity to do things such as play board games, read quietly, cards, coloring, and construction.

Mingled within our schedule will be special events such as a themed party, carnival day or a guest speaker on a topic we are including in our theme for the month.

Each day there is at least one “Enrichment” program that is available for the children in Extended Day as well as children who are not a part of the Extended Day program.  You will get more information on these enrichment activities during Open House for Palencia Elementary School. (In addition, we will post program descriptions on the Programs page as they become available.)  Enrichment programs will start the week after Labor Day and will include:

• Wednesday: Bricks4Kidz
• Thursday: Play Golf
• Friday:  Tumbling

All classes start at 3 pm except on Wednesdays (early release days), when the start time is 2 pm.
